Puma's Clever Little Bag
So I picked myself up some Ligas today, and since I finally had the infamous bag in my possession (infamous in the design industry, anyway): I decided to snap some shots and blog about it real quick. Dubbed Clever Little Bag, this unit of awesomeness is not only topless, missing a large portion of wasteful cardboard, cut out of one piece of material which goes together like a puzzle, and comes...

Occupy! Cover Design by Kelli Anderson
This beautify designed book cover belongs to an equally interesting book. I haven’t read it, so I’ll not say much about it. But I did want to bring to your attention the incredible detail that went in to this design, particularly the subtle imagery of protesters cleverly masked inside of the typography. It’s edgy and smart, and Kelli Anderson deserves a pat on the back. For...

2012, The Year Of Tangerine Tango
Pantone has released its always interesting color of year. This year it’s a feisty shade of orange (or red?), and they’ve dubbed it “Tangerine Tango.” The Pantone code is 17-1463, but since I live in the web world, I’ve recreated it with this hex code: #e1523d. I also took the liberty of putting together some split-complements (see graphic above). Those hexes are...

Astonish Me
“Every day we lose more of the natural world. And each time we find something new, we realize there’s so much more out there that we don’t know.” The World Wildlife Fun is certainly no stranger to making great viral videos. But this one deserves a bit of extra credit. Astonish Me is basically a hollywood quality short film showcasing a great message in a pretty unique way. At any rate, I...

Kirby! (Kirbi! Kirbé!)
That’s right. I just made a Tony! Toni! Toné! reference. There are times (from no fault of my own, mind you), where I come across extremely strange and mystical things. And some times they turn out to be awesomely inspiring. Today contained one of those times. Thanks to my friend Nate, my eyes befell upon a real gem of unexpected inspiration: Kirby. Yes, Kirby; that weird-ass pink blob...

Dogs in the Workplace: win-win.
Now normally I don’t post things that aren’t design related in some way. But Andy Levitt, founder of HealthTalker sent this article to me today. And being that I’m 100% for animal-friendly workplaces, I thought I should share it. Everywhere. Now I (like most people), am of the mind that your dog should go everywhere with you. Including work - provided of course that you...

Google Music!
I’m excited to report that I have successfully received my Google Music invite and got it rolling. Currently it’s automatically uploading my iTunes library, including playlists and album art. As you would expect from Google, the UI is form over function, and leaves much to be [aesthetically] desired. But c’mon. Having all of your playlists available and up-to-date from any...

The Cassette Tape Insert Card
Cassette tape insert cards: We’ve all had them. We’ve also all ignored them. And We’ve also all throw them away, drew on them, put stickers all over them, set them on fire, and got annoyed at them every time they slipped out and wouldn’t go back in correctly unless you used the tape to push it down. But I’m confident in saying that we haven’t done, is enjoyed...

Sonoran: not really the next Helvetica
I don’t know if anyone was paying attention, but idsgn had a fun little April fools joke for us this year. It was a slick new font family; Sonoran, and was going to replace Helvetica as the go-to hipster font. Obviously, this was not true (duh, no font can be more hipster than Helvetica). But I love font family sample graphics. I think they’re sexy. So even though this is actually...

You Took My Name
Dorothy is working on a fun project that’s been catching a lot of well deserved web-buzz lately. They call it “stripping famous logos back to their basic graphic form,” I call it a fantastic experiment in brand recognition, and an affirmation of all the work that goes into something that seems so simple in the end: Color, and form. Check out the rest of the pieces here:...

The "Line-Height-Laziness" Problem
I see this a lot. The infamous one-shot line height, where every line takes up the same level of vertical space. This works great, and is often used in CSS to set the height of certain elements like buttons, list-items, headers, inputs, and other block and inline-block level elements within a website. The problem, however, arises when attention isn’t paid to detail (big surprise there), and...

Minimalist Depictions of Music Genres
Edits by Edit put together a pretty awesome set of prints. With the collaboration of 13 different artists they released an amazing set of posters, each using only one element and one typeface to depict a certain genre of music. The result is 13 amazing minimalist depictions of genres. These would go great along side the minimalist music video and movie posters set, and minimalist album covers...

Pure Reader is Pure Awesome
Pure Reader, or, “how to make Google Reader not ugly” is an amazing browser extension/plugin by Na Wong to re-skin Google Reader  in a sexy, OS matching, and more usable way. It currently works in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and he also made a Greasemonkey script for good measure. He also provides the CSS in the instance that you want to port it over to another browser or add features. ...

The Evolution of Typography
Typefaces and fonts are at the forefront of design, whether it be designing a word document for work or designing a Fortune 500 website. The fonts that we choose can determine how we portray ourselves – as an individual or a business. Minimalist Album Covers
I tend to post alot of minimalist stuff. If someone came up to my on the street on asked me what styles are art I was most attracted too, I don’t think my answer would instinctively be “minimalist.” But I’m starting to wonder now. At any rate. Ty Lettau from Sound of Design made these awesome minimalist album covers, which are truly inspiring, and go well with the...

CSS3 Media Queries
With the rapid growth and immanent surpassing of mobile web browsing over desktop/laptop web browsing, screen size and fluidity is now more of an issue than ever before. Luckily, CSS3 has come to the rescue with it’s far more advanced upgrade of media queries. Remember those @print stylesheets that you always thought would be a good idea to use, but never actually did? Well, now you can...
